Residency and Partnerships

In collaboration with ChristianaCare, family medicine physician residents provide full-time care at the Family Medicine Center at Westside Family Healthcare. Residents manage their own patient panel and receive training and support from a team of experienced Westside physicians. Over the course of the three-year program, residents work closely with experienced doctors at our Wilmington health center.

During training, residents practice full-spectrum, evidence-based, patient-centered medicine in a Primary Care Medical Home model. The program emphasizes preventive care, the management of acute and chronic diseases, and the treatment of addiction disorders and complications. Residents also collaborate with behavioral health providers, nutritionists, healthcare coordinators and other support services to care for their patients.

Westside Family Healthcare partners with ChristianaCare for the General Practice Dentistry Residency Program. Dental residents receive hands-on training under the supervision of fully licensed dentists in a well-equipped operatory. Dental residents develop the full range of skills needed to evaluate and treat patients.

During the residency, dental residents provide preventive and restorative care, as well as perform simple oral surgeries. They also gain experience in community health, treating a wide range of patients. Residents will learn about dental materials, time management and patient behavior management, as well as how to work with electronic dental records (EDR) for charting and documentation. The residency takes place at Westside’s largest dental site, in Wilmington.
